Restorative Approach provides a positive, relational framework through which to achieve our goals and build relationships.
We try to answer the key questions of:
What has happened?
What has been the impact; who has been affected and in what ways have they been affected?
What needs to happen to put things right or make things better for the future?
To facilitate this it is important to:
Establish a respectful rapport.
Listen and respond calmly, empathically, and without interruption or judgement to all sides of an issue.
Inspire a sense of safety and trust.
Encourage people to express their thoughts, feelings and needs appropriately.
Appreciate the impact of people’s thoughts, feelings, beliefs and unmet needs on their behaviours.
By taking a restorative and relational approach to all our work we aim to restore and build:
Effective communication.
Relationships.
Empathy and understanding For each others’ perspectives.
Respect.
Understanding of the impact of one’s own behaviour on others.
and, for the individual, a sense of security, self-confidence, self-respect, and dignity.
