Preparation for Adulthood

Support young people to develop life skills to support their independence as they move toward adulthood and employment.

Pupil Profile Examples

IEP or EHCP outcomes may include:

  • Develop understanding of personal budget and money management.
  • Build confidence in the community E.g. asking for help in shops, buying goods etc.
  • Understand roles of professionals and services in the community e.g. how to access doctors, when and how to con tact services such as police, fire and ambulance services.
  • Understand the importance of self-care, (self-care, sleep, personal hygiene)
  • Keeping safe in the community, including online safety and protecting personal information.

Intervention

Use a staged process to build young person’s confidence toward accessing the community. We start with work in the home, preparing scripts, role playing activities, and considering ‘what if’ scenarios, before transferring these skills to planned, supported trial sessions in the community.
